For some retrofit projects, design drawings for the existing system may be missing, outdated, or inaccurate. In such cases, on-site measurements of system layout and dimensions are necessary. 3D laser scanning, a geospatial technology utilizing LiDAR (light detection and ranging), can capture existing system design information with high speed and exceptional accuracy.
At CCPGE, we utilize the Trimble X7 for high-speed 3D laser scans, the Trimble X12 for long-range scans, and the Matterport Pro3 for photo-realistic virtual tours. The raw data from these 3D scans can be exported in .RCP and .E57 formats for further processing. After data processing, rendering, and stitching, the point clouds become compatible with Smart Plant 3D and Navisworks, making them fully ready for 3D modeling work.
